Association Plus

Association Plus is built on the horse’s emotional response to learning itself. Rather than relying on pressure or repetition alone, Association Plus focuses on creating positive, lasting associations that form the foundation for confidence, curiosity, and cooperation. By combining early bonding, clear communication, and progressive positive reinforcement, we develop horses that want to participate—horses that think, engage, and trust.

Foals, Bonding, and the Power of Association

Training begins early, with thoughtful handling that respects the foal’s developing nervous system. Our initial work emphasizes calm interaction, consistency, and gentle exposure, allowing trust to form naturally.

This early approach supports the release of oxytocin, the hormone associated with bonding, safety, and social connection. When a young horse associates human interaction with comfort and security, learning becomes easier and stress responses are reduced.

These early experiences shape how the horse perceives training for life—not as something to endure, but as something familiar and safe. We do not rush this stage. Time, patience, and observation guide the process.

Positive Reinforcement Adds the "Plus" to Association

Early on, Association Plus expands to include positive reinforcement, carefully layered on top of the trust already established. Desired behaviors are marked clearly and rewarded thoughtfully, reinforcing understanding rather than compliance.

This approach improves focus, reduces anxiety, and encourages the horse to offer behavior willingly. Because the horse is mentally engaged, learning is retained more reliably and generalized more easily to new environments and expectations.

The result is a horse that is confident, mannerly, and responsive—whether in harness, under saddle, or in daily handling.

The Result: Sound Minds, Willing Partners

Association Plus produces horses that are emotionally grounded and mentally available. These horses are easier to train, more reliable in new situations, and better equipped for long-term success.

Our goal is not just performance, but partnership—developing horses that are as thoughtful and willing as they are athletic and expressive.
